Do you remember how much fun you had reading as a child? In simpler times, those of us who are no hard working members of society used to stroll on down to the library so a good book. We would read it an return it and get a new one due in about two weeks. Well, these days the internet has changed all that. No longer are kids going to the library for resources, instead choosing the internet to find information with a few simple clicks. Here are a couple reason to break this cycle with your child and get them to the local library.
1.) It’s great bonding time for you and your child- Indeed, what is more fun than combing the children’s section at your local library with your child looking for a good book? As an adult, the fun part is seeing books on the shelf you read as a child and being able to share the love of that book with them. You’ll be surprised at home much you remember from these books even all these years later.
2.) It’s educational to learn the library system- In he same way kids aren’t really learning to spell anymore due to the fact that spell checking picks up every little mistake, not having the experience of using a card catalogue does not give your child the tools they need to problem solve and do effective research. Next time you take your child to the library, give them a topic such as dinosaurs. From there, maybe specify a type of dinosaur, like a T-Rex. Then see if they can start from scratch and bring you a book open to a T-Rex. If they can, great, they have the tools to make research happen. If they need your hope, you can teach your child some problem solving skills and have fun at the same time!
