Fourth Grade Reading List

Fourth grade is prime time to get your child into some meaningful literature. There are many steps in the education process. It begins of course with developing foundational tools as a child in kindergarten. Mastery of the alphabet gives way to Curious George and Cat in the Hat. Once the foundation has been laid down, you can get your kids into books that teach them lessons about life and open dialogue between you two about the ways of the world. If you take a few hours and read the book too, all the better. Here are a couple of books to purchase for your fourth grader.

1.) Bridge To Terabithia- This is the story of a boy and his family who have little monetary wealth but are a family with charm. When a new girl moves to the area, she quickly becomes best friends with the main character in the story and the two of them have great adventures using only their creativity to entertain themselves. The story deals with some adult issues but it’s a great introduction to your child as to the fragility of life.

2.) Tuck Everlasting- This book also deals with some adult matter though it’s not quite as tear jerking as Bridge To Terabithia. This story involves the issue of the fountain and youth and whether or not we would really want to remain young forever if we were afforded the chance. The book involved a family which looks youthful but is actually over a hundred years old. The drink from a fountain of youth and have little interaction with normal people who might become suspicious at their lack of aging. The book comes to a conflict when a regular person enters the picture and the bond og the family is tested.

Kids truly make the bonding with books when they start reading good stories. Get your kids involved with these great books and maybe read them youself as well.
